December

We started our month of December off with our grandson Evan's 8 birthday on the third.
He let his cousins help open some of his gifts.
Evan is very tall for his age  he is taller  than most  10 to 11 years old.

I was able to go enjoy Hadley's first Christmas program at her Elementary school .
What great fun it was to watch  all the children perform.
As much as the children wiggled and jiggled they still did a great  job.

Then among all the Christmas fun she got hit with a very painful abscessed tooth
which meant spending time at the dentist.

I was able  to get some of my decorations out probably about a quarter of it was still in storage.
I'm getting really lazy about decorating  anymore.

And in case you do not recognise this room go back to this link we finally got it done!  We had to wait for the barn wood and beams to come out of Oregon so it ended up going more slowly than expected.  But I can say  now it is done we even have furniture in it.

Happy Thanksgiving

As I sit here in my warm home and look back at this
humble little cabin and think about my ancestors
and how they would of lived back then.
The struggles they would have to overcome
just to survive a winter.
I wonder how many people would survive
under these conditions.
With the east coast still trying to get roofs over their heads,
I know I am very thankful to have what I have today.

It's Official !

Winter has arrived.

And along with it Kacy, Brent and the girls move into their new home today.
Even though it is a happy day for us I can not help but think about the east coast.
With all that they have lost and now to add the cold winter on top of it.
I'm hoping that the help that they need so desperately is getting to them by now.

Last Days of Fall

Kacy and I decided to take the girls for a hike up into the mountains to see some fall colors. The first thing we encountered was a rattle snake that gave us all a surprise. Since  Hadley had to be the first  in line she got to be the one that scared it off with her  HIGH pitched scream. We were all  little  shook up an finally got the courage to continue onward.
It was all worth it, the girls collected leaves along the  way .
At the end of the hike they found a  interesting spider .

The garden has been put to rest. Another growing season has come to an end.

I finally was able to take a short ride
 with Dennis on the horses,
we went back up to Middle Fork Canyon.  The colors were faded.
It was the opening of the deer hunt.
We came across some of the hunters but none of them had any luck
and were very disappointed.

Many years have passed since I went  hunting.
The first time I went I was in the fourth grade.
My Dad along with Mom and my sister Denice.
Went up to the mountains close to home.
We had a early snowfall so it was very cold in the tent
and trying to go to the bathroom in the early morn
on a ice cold bucket was not  very much fun.

The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands I used to hold
Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall.
Johnny Mercer

There has been this amazing mushroom/fungus growing on a stump of a tree in the bottom of the corral.  I must say the pictures don't do it justice it was really  quite pretty.

Brent spent the day raking up all our leaves only to have all the girls Payton ,Paige, Hadley, Wesley to destroy  all is hard work.
Khloe hung back a bit she was  just willing to watch all the commoition

After Brent buried the girls in the leaves they plotted a revenge, sweet, sweet revenge.
